This Cree language camp is a week long summer program founded on the epistemological and pedagogical practices of nēhiyawak. The focus of this experience is to produce authentic language engagement in the context to enhance and share nēhiyaw identity, including ways of knowing and being. Learners will be introduced to a variety of language learning methods. The end result of this experience is to introduce one’s self, share basic concepts of conversation, and tell a story in Cree confidently. Our past learners have been engaged in their learning in an outdoor environment that permeates the traditional teachings and an experience they will never forget. Our teachers are artists of many gifts: story-telling, singing, beading, birch bark biting, basket making and role-playing. Land-based learning is also included in the experience.
Camp locations are announced annually.
Camp learners are grouped based on their language assessment and years of study in the Cree language.
We also offer online learning for beginners, intermediate and advanced.
